The Bhagavad-gītā reveals a remarkable hierarchy within us:

Sense Objects → Senses → Mind → Intelligence → Soul

Each level is higher and more powerful than the one below it.

1. Sense Objects

They attract the senses—but they are lifeless.

2. Senses

The senses collect information and act upon the world.

3. Mind

The mind is higher because it feels.
It likes, dislikes, desires, fears and imagines—even when the senses are completely silent.

4. Intelligence

Intelligence is higher than the mind.
It knows, discriminates and decides:
“Should I do this—or not?”

But there is a catch.

When intelligence is weak, the mind becomes its master.

5. Soul

Higher than intelligence is the soul—the conscious self, capable of connecting directly with Bhagavān.

So the real problem is not simply the senses.

The real problem is a broken hierarchy.

How Bhakti Controls the Hierarchy

Bhakti does not merely suppress the senses but gives every level a higher engagement.

Sense objects → use them in Kṛṣṇa’s service.
Senses → engage them in service.
Mind → engage it in remembrance of Kṛṣṇa.
Intelligence → strengthen it through śāstra and spiritual knowledge.
Soul → connect it with Kṛṣṇa through the holy name.

When we chant, the senses act, the mind remembers, intelligence becomes spiritually directed—and the soul connects with Kṛṣṇa.

Everything begins moving in one direction—toward Kṛṣṇa. That is the genius of bhakti.

It does not destroy the hierarchy.
It brings the entire hierarchy into harmony under Krishna.
