If Krishna has no attraction to the material world, why does He create it, maintain it, and personally accompany every living being?
The answer is one of the most beautiful truths in bhakti: causeless mercy.
The spiritual world is sat-cit-ānanda—eternal, full of knowledge, and full of bliss. The material world is temporary (asat), inert (acit), and devoid of pure love (nirānanda). Naturally, Krishna has no personal interest in it.
Yet He never abandons it.
Unlike us, Krishna’s care is not driven by self-interest. When we lose interest in something, we usually stop caring for it. Krishna does the opposite. Although He has nothing to gain from this world, He sustains it, enters every heart as Paramātmā, sends scriptures, appears through His incarnations, and empowers His devotees to guide lost souls back to Him.
That is why His mercy is called causeless. There is no selfish motive—only compassion.
The material creation is not Krishna’s necessity; it is His gift.
It is a divine opportunity for every soul to rediscover its forgotten relationship with Him and return to its eternal home.
The closer we understand Krishna’s causeless mercy, the more we realize that every moment of our spiritual journey is not the result of our qualification—but of His boundless compassion.
